Mini's Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What age is my player?
For 2014/2015 year, the age range is as follows

U3 = Aug 2011 - Jan 2012
U4 = Aug 2010 - July 2011
U5 = Aug 2009 - July 2010

Also note that some five year old players are too old to participate in our Mini's program (especially in the fall season when players age-up). Once a player reaches kindergarten, then they become a U6 Recreational player and graduate from our Mini's program.

What equipment does my player need?
On the first day of the program, there will be a team jersey available for your player at your field that is yours to keep forever! Each week, players should wear their TVSC shirt along with ball, shinguards, and athletic shoes (cleats are not required for this age group but are optional), and also bring a water bottle and weather appropriate clothing if necessary. We bring and set-up all additional equipment.

Are groups co-ed or gender specific?
Groups are co-ed and will be used to maintain a positive learning environment. Players wishing to be grouped together and be assigned to a specific coach should indicate that in their registration under COACH/FRIEND request. Group assignments, if needed, will not be sent out until the week of the first play date.

When will I get information about the upcoming program?
Roughly two weeks prior to the start of the season, you will receive an email outlining the upcoming program in great detail.

When will I get information about my player's team grouping?
If groups are needed, exactly one week prior to the start of the program you signed up for, you will receive an email with your player's group assignment.

Who coaches my player's team? Can I do it?
Our teams are coached by a mixture of volunteer parents and paid staff coaches. If you have any interest in coaching, definitely do it (even if have limited soccer knowledge)! We make it as easy as possible - All coaches must be registered as a coach.

How do makeup days work?
For each Mini's program, TVSC schedules two makeup days at the end of each season. Makeups are typically held on the same day, at the same, and at the same time as the program you registered for. If we cancel a session due to weather or an event outside of Skyline's control then you will be notified via email of a) the cancellation and b) the makeup day schedule.

TVSC only holds programs on makeup days if a previous session during the regularly scheduled season has been cancelled.

The weather looks questionable - how do we know if our session is cancelled?
If you are unsure of whether or not a session has been cancelled, check the announcements section of TVSC's home page (tanqueverdesoccer.com). Announcements for the Mini's program are made by 4p.

You will also receive a notification email once a decision has been made in regards to any cancellations. Any cancellation email you receive will also provide information regarding the makeup schedule.

How much parent involvement is required or allowed?
Each team is usually led by a coach or pair of coaches, but if you notice your player is struggling or wants your help, then feel free to step in! Parent involvement is not required, but definitely allowed and even encouraged if a player is being disruptive or needs assistance.

What do I do if the session we wanted to sign up for is full?
We do our best to accommodate as many children as we can, but at some point we have to close program locations to ensure that those who are registered have a great experience. Please contact the program director (rmoore@tanqueverdesoccer.com) to placed onto a wait list - sometimes individuals back out which allows us to accept additional players.

Can I still sign-up my player after a season has started?
Assuming the program location and day of the week you are interested is not full, we can usually get players added after a season has begun. If the season you want to play in has started, then please the program director (rmoore@tanqueverdesoccer.com) to learn more or get signed up.
